Former “American Idol” contestant La’Porsha Renae has rubbed some people the wrong way after a bizzare Twitter. She is claiming that being gay is a lifestyle because she was able to overcome it after being in a relationship with a woman for two years.
The Season 15 runner-up got into a war-of-words with some of her Twitter followers after she told a fan it’s a choice to be gay.
It appears that the drama started after a male fan tweeted that he wouldn’t buy Renae’s debut album “Already All Ready” because she’s homophobic.
The “Battles” singer quickly fired back, telling the fan that she has no problem with people who are homosexual.
“Phobia is a fear,” she tweeted. “I’m not afraid of homosexuals, nor do I hate them. I respect and love EVERYONE.”
She continued telling another fan that when it comes to sexuality, people have a choice with what they identify as.
“You’re wrong to think it’s not a choice for some,” the 23-year-old single mother wrote. “Because it was for me. #Truth.”
Renae then revealed that she made the decision to be a straight woman after “being homosexual for two years.”
This isn’t the first time Renae has come under fire for her comments about homosexuality.
Shortly after the “American Idol” finale in April 2016, she told the press that she doesn’t agree with the LGBT lifestyle because that’s not how she was raised.
“This is how I feel about the LGBT community. They are people just like us. … Although all of us may not agree with that particular lifestyle for religious reasons, whatever the reason is, you still treat each other with respect,” she said. “I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle. I wasn’t brought up that way. It wasn’t how I was raised.”
